In the small town of Glashütte in Saxony, eastern Germany, there was once a renowned watchmaking name: A. Lange & Söhne, founded in 1845. Then war and the upheavals of an age wiped it from the map for nearly half a century.

Before the Second World War ended, Lange's workshops were destroyed; after the war, the family firm was expropriated by the state, and the name "Lange" vanished. Only after German reunification in 1990 did the founder's great-grandson, Walter Lange, by then almost seventy, return home to rebuild almost from nothing. In 1994 the first collection of the reborn brand appeared, and its most iconic piece, the Lange 1, carried a signature "outsize date" window inspired by the century-old chiming clock in the Dresden opera house. A name that had lain silent for nearly fifty years had won back the world's respect.

The true weight of this story lies in what it reveals as the most precious thing an old house owns: trust. For a name to put people at ease the moment they hear it rests not on a burst of advertising, but on decades, even generations, of reputation built honestly, a little at a time, never once cheating. Once established, such trust is something no new brand can replicate however much it spends; yet it is also fragile, and must be guarded with care.

Whether in watchmaking, or in the old trades of ginseng, dried seafood and fine wine that prize "genuine goods" above all, the principle is the same: a customer returns again and again not because you are the cheapest, but because they know that here they will never be deceived, and will always receive something worthy of the name over the door.

A true old house has never sold merely goods; it sells a reassurance that took many years to distil.

What Tin Yee's house of fine wine and its Five Thousand Years ginseng and seafood hall believe in is that same spirit of standing on reputation: with genuine goods and an honest heart, building customers' trust a little at a time. Like the Lange 1, a name that passed through silence and was reborn, real value is distilled by time, and only time can prove it.
